FROZEN (ATTN: Fans of horror, suspense and good film - See ASAP)

A new indie horror film that blew up at Sundance opened this past weekend. It's called Frozen, and it is a must-see. Made by up-and-coming film director (and I'm proud to say college friend) Adam Green, this movie had me eating my hand in an hour and a half of discomfort.

The movie sounds simple - Three people are caught on a ski lift and face certain death. It's the execution that makes this independent suspense-horror movie absolutely fantastic. The concept is rather simple, and there inlies its genius. It connects with the audience, while at the same time not insulting our intelligence. They really covered their ground. The one exception is that while stuck on this lift, none of the characters stuck their heads inside of their coats. Which, as anyone who has ever been out in the butt-ass cold before knows is one of the first things that you do. But this is completely forgivable because (a) you can't really get much out of an actor if for 90 minutes they are speaking in a muffled voice to their chest, (b) it is of no consequence to the main obstacle or emotions of the character and (c) everything else was done with a beautiful discomfort.

Not only is it an incredibly intense character-driven piece with just enough gore to be grotesque, yet classy, but the entire movie was shot practically. This means that there was no green screen, no studio set. It was all shot on location in the middle of a ski lift in Utah where the snow did not stop coming down. The actors were up there for 6 hours at a time, not only having to summon the emotion power to carry a movie that is mostly three people on a gondola, but having the physical endurance to tolerate the conditions and work frozen half to death.

I highly recommend this movie. See FROZEN. Support independent film. If it's not at your local theater, here's what Adam has to say: "Now get #FROZEN at a theater near you and ASK your theater's manager to contact Anchor Bay for a print! They WILL bring it if you ask!"

That's awesome and funny Jessi. The movie is really uncomfortably intense... in a good way. I've seen my share of these types of movies, and this one had my stomach in knots at times (the hand scene was even worse lol... and that was just one part). The thing that is great about the movie is the characters and their reactions were all incredibly real. Afterwards I got a chance to hang out and catch up with Adam. He was telling me that they worked hard to try to find ways to find loopholes in their story.

According to Adam, just ask your local theater to bring this movie in. Tell them to contact Anchor Bay. This movie is amazing, but the studio is unfortunately not putting any advertising behind it outside of LA.

I received quite a few e-mails from readers asking when they'll get a chance to see Adam Green's chiller Frozen in a theater near them. The answer? I dunno. Well, at least until now. Apparently, Anchor Bay is claiming they'll program the film in any theater that requests it, which means it's once again up to you to tell your theaters you want it (why do we always have to do all the work?). Below you can read the offiical release sent to us with information on how YOU can demand it.

Writer/Director Adam Green writes in:

"Thanks to everyone who supported FROZEN this past weekend. The reviews and reactions are beyond anything we could have hoped for and despite the blizzards and the Super Bowl- you guys still made it out to the theater to support something original. However, many of you did NOT get FROZEN in your favorite theater on it's opening weekend due to it's small and limited release.

Now you can change that!

In response to how amazing the early reactions and glowing reviews have been for FROZEN, Anchor Bay has now agreed to send a print of the film to any theater that requests it. The power is in YOUR hands to get FROZEN playing at a theater near you! All you have to do is speak to your theater's manager and make sure that he/she knows how much you want FROZEN playing in your favorite theater. All they need to do is request a print from Anchor Bay- and you'll be on your way to getting FROZEN. Have your theater contact "frozen@starz.com" to make the request.

Remember, the theater manager needs to make the request from Anchor Bay. If you want to write in to that email address and tell Anchor Bay that you want FROZEN, tell them what you think of their limited release strategy, or tell them why the world needs more original genre films supported in theaters- by all means- be my guest. But that won't get a print shipped to your theater. It is the theater manager that can get the print for you. Don't take NO for an answer from your theater! Did they tell you there is no room on their screens because this week's remake is taking up all of them? Don't stand for that! Tell them how you feel and make sure that they contact Anchor Bay Films for their own print of FROZEN. Don't be passive and give up. We're onto something here and it is WORKING! You complain that these original genre films always get damned to unsupported limited releases and all you get is remakes each week... well here's our chance to change the tide. Let your theaters hear your voices! Let Anchor Bay know you want this and appreciate original genre films!

The time is now. Get FROZEN in your theater! Your voices have already has made a huge difference. Keep it up and let's get this film everywhere."
